What are PCI and SSS in 5G?

Physical Cell Identity (PCI): In 5G, the PCI is a unique identifier assigned to each cell in the network. It is used by User Equipment (UE) to identify cells for initial synchronization and handover. The PCI is calculated using the Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) and Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS) with the formula:
PCI = 3 × PSS + SSS.

Secondary Synchronization Signal (SSS): The SSS helps the UE identify the cell ID within a group and is one of the two synchronization signals transmitted by the base station. Its value ranges from 0 to 335.
