🇮🇳 What is National Science Day?

National Science Day (NSD) is celebrated every year on 28 February across India. It marks the day in 1928 when the brilliant Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman announced his groundbreaking discovery — the Raman Effect — which changed the world of physics forever.

This day is celebrated by students, teachers, and scientists all over the country through quizzes, science fairs, debates, and exhibitions. The Government of India officially declared 28 February as National Science Day in 1986.

🔭 Who Was C.V. Raman?

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (7 November 1888 – 21 November 1970) was an Indian physicist who was born in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. He is one of the greatest scientists India has ever produced.

On 28 February 1928, C.V. Raman discovered a phenomenon called the Raman Effect — when light passes through a transparent material, some of the light changes its wavelength (colour). This discovery helped scientists understand the structure of molecules and earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian to win a Nobel Prize in science.

He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954 — India's highest civilian honour. His work continues to inspire millions of students across India and the world.

💡 Why National Science Day Matters for Students

National Science Day is more than just a date on the calendar — it's a reminder that curiosity, questioning, and scientific thinking can change the world. For school students from Classes 5 to 10, this day is an opportunity to explore subjects like physics, chemistry, biology, and space science in exciting new ways.

India has produced remarkable scientists — from C.V. Raman to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, from Homi Bhabha to the ISRO scientists who launched Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan. Taking a science quiz on National Science Day is a fun way to connect with this incredible heritage and sharpen your own scientific knowledge.

What is this Science Quiz about?
This National Science Day Quiz is an interactive, image-based multiple-choice quiz designed for Indian school students (Class 5–10). It covers topics like C.V. Raman, the Raman Effect, ISRO, Indian scientists, space, physics, chemistry, and biology — with instant feedback and scoring.
What is the Raman Effect?
The Raman Effect (or Raman Scattering) is a phenomenon where light passing through a transparent material changes its wavelength. When a beam of light hits molecules, some light is scattered at different energies, revealing information about the molecule's structure. This is widely used in chemistry, medicine, and material science today.
