Educational Qualification

  • Must have passed Secondary School Examination (10th standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized Board of School Education in India.
  • Must have studied the local language of the post at least up to 10th standard (as prescribed in Annexure-III of the notification).
  • Special provisions apply for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim and Nagaland regarding local language knowledge (certificate may be required).

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of computers
  • Knowledge of cycling
  • Adequate means of livelihood (GDS must have another source of income)

💼 Posts & Emoluments (TRCA)

Post TRCA Slab
Branch Postmaster (BPM) ₹12,000 – ₹29,380
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) / Dak Sevak ₹10,000 – ₹24,470

In addition to TRCA, GDSs are entitled to Dearness Allowance and other social security benefits as per GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.

Service Conditions: GDSs are not regular government employees. They work 4–5 hours a day and cannot be retained beyond 65 years of age. BPMs must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and reside in the post village.

Fee can be paid online through Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI. Fee once paid is non-refundable.

🏆 Selection Process

Selection is purely merit-based on marks obtained in the 10th standard examination. There is no written examination and no interview.

Merit List Preparation

  • Percentage of marks in Secondary School Examination calculated to 4 decimal places.
  • In case of grades/points, conversion is done by multiplying Grade Point by 9.5.
  • Where both marks and grades are available, marks are preferred.

Tie-Breaker (in order of priority)

Date of Birth (older preferred) → Category preference (ST Trans-woman → ST Female → SC Trans-woman → … → UR Male).

Shortlisted candidates will be called for physical verification of documents. Final engagement is subject to successful document verification and completion of pre-engagement formalities (including 3-day basic training).

  1. Visit the official portal: https://indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement
  2. Complete One-Time Registration using a valid mobile number and email ID (verified via OTP).
  3. Login with Registration Number and Password.
  4. Fill the online application form carefully (personal details, educational details, post preferences).
  5. Upload recent photograph and signature as per specifications.
  6. Pay the application fee (if applicable) and submit the form.
  7. Take a printout of the submitted application for future reference.
Photo & Signature Specifications:
• Photograph: JPG/JPEG, 30–100 KB, recommended 320×400 px (4:5 ratio)
• Signature: JPG/JPEG, 20–100 KB, recommended 300×120 px (5:2 ratio)

📄 Documents Required (at the time of verification)

  • 10th Standard Marksheet & Certificate
  • Identity Proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport etc.)
  • Date of Birth Proof
  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) in prescribed format (if applicable)
  • EWS Certificate (if applicable)
  • PwBD Certificate (if applicable)
  • Transgender Certificate (if applicable)
  • Medical Certificate from Government Hospital / Dispensary / PHC (Compulsory)
  • Local language proficiency certificate (for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim, Nagaland – if required)

Note: Candidates are advised to keep documents ready in DigiLocker for faster verification.

⚠️ Important Instructions

  • Only one registration per candidate is allowed. Duplicate applications will be cancelled.
  • Name, Father’s name, Mother’s name and Date of Birth must exactly match the 10th marksheet.
  • Mobile number and email ID cannot be changed after registration.
  • Department does not make phone calls to candidates. Beware of fraudsters.
  • Candidates must regularly visit the portal for updates. SMS/Email delivery is not guaranteed.
  • BPMs must arrange suitable accommodation for the Branch Post Office before engagement.
  • The Department reserves the right to modify, cancel or revise the number of posts at any time.
